Having arrived through another trans-mediteranean flight in the scorching heat of greater Cairo / Al Atlal choosed to settle down near the place where the lost city of Ibn Tulun used to be / Browsing the concrete jungle of the nile valley / Harmony in chaos / Testing urban highway flyover / Traffic forever stand still in the streets of Heliopolis / Bored / Fucked off to the duat / He could feel the regular thud of the megalopolis while standing on the remains of the Abu Rawash temple / Ultra dry Marlboro disintegrating / unmarked helicopters hovering / Everyone wanted air-con nightmare / The blueness of Arab Idol / He stared endlessly at the graphicness of Islamic stelaes / The vicinity of Al Qarafah / At the bottom of a cliff / Street dogs in the shadows / Heat unbearable / Thus inspired – Al Atlal flew home and worked.
This serie of work is a non-academic transcription of various kufic texts dating from the 6 th to the 10 th centuries. Texts from stelae or manuscripts are rendered completely meaningless. Or maybe they just seem like it.
